The chief minister also widened his attack to the Congress’s political leadership, its historical decisions and what he described as the influence of the Nehru-Gandhi family. His remarks came as the Congress continued to protest over alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision process and called for accountability from the country’s top election official.
Yadav Questions Congress’s Stand on SIR
Yadav claimed that the Congress had no objections to the SIR process when electoral outcomes suited it but raised concerns about the exercise in other circumstances. Referring to Kerala and Himachal Pradesh, where the Congress has formed governments, he argued that the party should maintain a consistent position on electoral procedures.
The Congress has been raising concerns about alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision process and demanding Kumar’s resignation. Yadav rejected the party’s criticism and said disorder during protests against the Election Commission would not be tolerated.
He also urged Congress leaders to examine their own political record rather than repeatedly question the functioning of constitutional institutions.
Attacks on Congress’s Political Leadership
In his speech, Yadav cited the Congress’s decision to nominate former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan against senior BJP leader L.K. Advani as an example of what he described as inconsistencies in the party’s conduct. He also referred to former Punjab Police chief K.P.S. Gill, claiming that during the Manmohan Singh-led government, Gill had been made to hold the Congress flag.
Gill is widely associated with efforts to combat militancy in Punjab during the 1990s.
Yadav further alleged that the Nehru-Gandhi family had treated political leadership as its own preserve. Referring to the transfer of authority by nearly 600 princely states after Independence, he suggested that power had subsequently become concentrated within the Congress.
The chief minister also claimed that the BJP’s influence was expanding in states including Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, while the Congress was losing ground. He additionally asserted that the Congress had failed to win a single seat in Tamil Nadu for five decades.
Yadav praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying that the Prime Minister was working to advance India’s development and strengthen its standing internationally.
Narsinghpur Visit Focuses on Education and Development
Alongside his political remarks, Yadav inaugurated a new building for the Sandeepani Excellence School in Narsinghpur, constructed at a cost of ₹42.52 crore. He also flagged off a bus service for students.
The chief minister transferred ₹213.41 crore into the bank accounts of more than 35.56 lakh social security pension beneficiaries and distributed property ownership certificates to beneficiaries under the Swamitva scheme.
Yadav said the state government was committed to improving education and facilities for children. He claimed that the dropout rate in government schools had fallen from 14% to zero.
He also inaugurated four roads and a government high school in Kalyanpur. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, water supply is being expanded across 50 villages through projects costing ₹23.17 crore. The programme also included the foundation-laying of 21 development projects valued at around ₹95 crore.
Road Upgrades and New Infrastructure Announced
Yadav announced that the Gotegaon–Narsinghpur–Pipariya road would be upgraded at an estimated cost of ₹540 crore. Other proposed projects included the Ekant Van corridor, a major road connecting Kheri Naka with the railway station, a Geeta Bhawan and a riverfront at Varman Ghat on the Narmada.
He also said Narsinghpur would benefit from the Jabalpur Metropolitan Area.
State School Education and Transport Minister Uday Pratap Singh said 375 government Sandeepani schools had been completed in Madhya Pradesh. He added that the government was providing students with support such as laptops, scooters, bicycles and buses.
Yadav’s visit combined criticism of the Congress over electoral issues with announcements and inaugurations linked to education, social welfare, roads and water supply in the Narsinghpur region.
