Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to begin a three-day visit to West Bengal from July 17 to 19, with a packed schedule centred on border security, governance, law and order, and key development initiatives. The visit is expected to include high-level review meetings and the inauguration of several public projects across the state.
The tour marks Shah’s first comprehensive visit to West Bengal since the BJP formed its first government in the state following the Assembly elections held earlier this year. Officials said the visit will focus on strengthening administrative coordination while reviewing security and infrastructure priorities.
On July 18, the Home Minister is scheduled to visit the Jumagach Border Outpost near Siliguri, where he will interact with personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF). During the visit, he will also inaugurate completed BSF infrastructure projects and lay the foundation stone for new development works aimed at enhancing operational capabilities along the international border.
Later in the day, Shah will chair a review meeting on border management and security issues in West Bengal. He is also expected to assess the implementation of the country’s three new criminal laws and examine their progress across the state.
According to officials, another key meeting will focus on improving the system of birth and death registration, with discussions likely to cover administrative efficiency and service delivery.
On the final day of his visit, Shah will travel to Kolkata, where he will chair a comprehensive review of the state’s law and order situation with senior officials.
His schedule also includes the inauguration of the first phase of the Museum of Words at the National Library in Alipore. In addition, he will lay the foundation stone for Amul Dairy’s curd processing plant at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, a project expected to strengthen dairy processing infrastructure and support the region’s agricultural economy.
The three-day visit combines security reviews with development initiatives, reflecting the Centre’s focus on strengthening governance, improving border management and expanding infrastructure projects in West Bengal.
