By Uttar Pradesh is stepping up efforts to position itself as a major hub for textiles and apparel, with industry leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers set to gather at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan for a two-day UP Tex event from Tuesday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the event and is expected to outline the state’s broader vision for expanding the textile sector, attracting investment and creating employment.
The chief minister will also open an exhibition showcasing products from the handloom, silk, textile and apparel and handicrafts sectors. During the event, Yogi is scheduled to interact with entrepreneurs and industry representatives, while several new initiatives aimed at supporting weavers, improving skills and strengthening engagement between the government and the textile industry will be launched.
New initiatives for weavers and the textile industry
The UP government will introduce the ‘UP Tex Mitra’ portal, designed to provide a dedicated platform for the state’s textile sector.
The Handloom Weaver Prosperity Scheme and the Uttar Pradesh Textile Sector Training and Skill Development Scheme will also be launched during the event.
Technology will be another major theme at UP Tex, with discussions planned on how artificial intelligence, automation and digitalisation can be integrated into textile manufacturing and other parts of the industry.
The focus reflects the changing nature of textile production, where technology and skilled manpower are increasingly important for improving productivity and competing in larger markets.
Push to develop textile parks as investment centres
A special discussion will focus on the PM MITRA and Sant Kabir Textile Park, with industry representatives expected to explore ways to develop these projects into globally competitive manufacturing and investment destinations.
The state government is looking at textile parks as a means of attracting large-scale investment while creating jobs and expanding Uttar Pradesh’s export base.
The proposed approach is aimed at building a more complete textile ecosystem within the state, covering manufacturing, skills, employment and market opportunities.
Home textiles to get special focus
The first day of UP Tex will feature a dedicated session on the potential for home textiles in Uttar Pradesh.
Industry representatives and policymakers will discuss opportunities for expanding production and strengthening the state’s position in this segment.
The second day will shift the focus towards specialised textile manufacturing. Sessions will examine the possibilities of making Uttar Pradesh a major manufacturing centre for sports textiles and sports goods, as well as developing the state into a national hub for protective and defence textiles.
The two-day event is expected to bring together different parts of the textile value chain and provide a platform for discussions on investment, technology, skills and new manufacturing opportunities.
With the state government increasingly focusing on textile parks, skill development and technology-led manufacturing, UP Tex is being positioned as part of a broader effort to turn Uttar Pradesh into a competitive textile and apparel destination.
